You know that I have a reputation for being one of the most honest guys out there when it comes to lifting. I don’t sugarcoat anything, and never lead my followers astray.

“100% Or Nothing” is a not just a fancy slogan I like to slap on t-shirts when I train. No, it has a much deeper meaning for me; it’s a way of life. A philosophy, if you like, that I’d like to believe undermines my character. Hopefully, you’d agree with me?

So I’m going to give it to you straight: if you don’t perform, you don’t grow.

Quite frankly, performance is EVERYTHING in this game. Let me explain a little more clearly.

Performance is what I call the “stimulus” that forces your body to adapt. And without a stimulus, your body has no reason to grow and develop new muscle tissue – why would it?

You have to remember that your physique is an incredibly stubborn specimen that has no real reason to grow new muscle tissue. From a physiological standpoint, it’s unnecessary for survival. In fact, too much muscle is a straight up hinderance!

This isn’t me being pessimistic – just realistic, man. It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about muscle gain or fat loss; the concept is the same. If you want to elicit a serious response, you’ve got to perform and force your body to change.

Once you perform, you then enter a period of “adaptation” and this is where sound nutrition comes into play, to reshape the body how we want it.

So now that you understand the importance of performance, the question is “how do we maximise it to elicit the maximum response?

If you’ve followed me for more than a day, you’ll know I’m a massive proponent of HIT (High Intensity Training). That’s because it’s not only straight up brutal, but there’s such a huge emphasis to beat the previous weeks total always in the back of your mind!

This constant challenging environment is always stressing the body to adapt to a fresh stimulus, which is why I love it and base my training around it. Don’t get me wrong, other training systems follow a similar mode of action, but I haven’t found any to be as effective as my system.


So that’s lesson #1 for today man. If you don’t perform, you won’t grow. Simple!
